Hello, my name is Steven Farhat and I am a Senior Integrated Social Studies Education major. I was first elected as College of Education, Health and Human Services Senator in 2018 and was recently re-elected last March.
As an Undergraduate Student Government Senator, I have made it my goal to give students a voice on Undergraduate Student Government at Kent State. I am a firm believer that Undergraduate Student Government can only be an effective institution if every student has a voice. As Senator, I work to promote student involvement in our college, so that as many students have a say in issues affecting them as possible. I also work to tackle pressing issues that face our campus, such as academic affordability, sustainability and initiatives to help commuter students.
During my Sophomore year, I was first motivated to run for Undergraduate Student Government, largely because I felt our representatives were not listening to us students. In conversation with many of my fellow classmates, I found that I was not the only one who felt this way. I realized that many of our students were not even aware that Undergraduate Student Government existed in the first place, which puzzled me. It was through these interactions that I realized I could be an agent of change for our college and our campus. During the election campaign, I talked to hundreds of EHHS students to hear what they wanted from their Senator and their Undergraduate Government representatives.
After taking office, I still remember the feedback I heard during the campaign and have made it my goal to pursue many of the ideas that came from my fellow EHHS classmates. I have not forgotten the students who placed their trust in me and I am working hard to never let them down.
That being said, I cannot do this without your help. My door is always open and I welcome your feedback on ways we can make our college and campus a better place.
Feel free to shoot me an email, connect with me on social media or drop in anytime during my office hours at the Undergraduate Student Government Office!
Thank you again for your trust in me and I look forward to connecting with you!
Steven J. Farhat
